Employee Spotlight: Shawn Vance - 5 Years
Analysis and Measurements Services (AMS) would like to congratulate Shawn Vance on his 5 years of service at AMS. Shawn Vance is a dedicated software engineer whose journey to AMS is as inspiring as it is diverse. Born in Florida and raised across Georgia and Colorado, Shawn’s early life was marked by adaptability and exploration. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he proudly served for 20 years. His roles as an electrician and a S.E.R.E. (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape) instructor gave him a wealth of experience and a strong foundation in discipline, problem-solving, and leadership—skills that continue to shape his professional approach today.

Following his military service, Shawn transitioned to the civilian sector with a role at Amtrak in Washington, D.C., where he served as Superintendent of all electric locomotives in the Northeast Corridor. It was during this chapter that he met his wife, Beth. The couple later moved to Arkansas, where Shawn returned to school as a 40-year-old freshman. He earned a degree in computer science and mathematics from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, setting the stage for a new career in technology.
Shawn began his tech journey at Medevolve, where he focused on automating medical insurance claim processing. Eventually, he and his family settled in Tennessee, where he joined AMS. At AMS, Shawn plays a key role in software development, primarily working on WinCharm. Outside of work, he enjoys poker and 3D printing—hobbies that allow him to unwind and express his creativity. Shawn’s story is a testament to lifelong learning, resilience, and the power of reinvention. We’re proud to have him on the AMS team!
