
Employee Spotlight: Dan McCarter - 15 Years
Dan McCarter is a long-standing and valued member of the AMS team, currently serving in a multifaceted role that includes software development, project management, and plant support. Over his 15-year tenure at AMS, Dan has contributed to a wide range of projects, from writing and maintaining critical software systems to managing fieldwork at nuclear power plants. He originally joined AMS as a research engineer, but his passion for programming led him to transition into software development—a field he’s been drawn to since the beginning of his career.
Dan was born in Wilmington, North Carolina, and spent his childhood moving between Wilmington, Knoxville, and the suburbs of Nashville. He later attended college in Atlanta, where he earned his degree from Georgia Tech. After college, he returned to Knoxville, a place that always felt like home.

His journey at AMS has been one of growth, learning, and meaningful contribution—and he’s excited to see what the future holds. Before joining AMS, Dan spent 10 years working at Macaroni Grill. While AMS is his first professional role in the engineering world, his experience in the service industry helped shape his strong work ethic and collaborative spirit.
Outside of work, Dan enjoys playing guitar, reading, and spending time with his wonderful family, Tracy, Ben, and Lily.
