Doug Norman was born and raised in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area where his dad worked as an engineer. Doug later went on to earn his BSEE from Arizona State University in Tempe. Prior to AMS, he worked for National Instruments, so he is a big fan of LabVIEW and AMS’s use of LabVIEW and NI hardware is what initially attracted him to the company. Once he met the people and learned more about the smaller size and family feel of AMS, he was sold.
Doug now lives in Liberty Hill, Texas, just outside of Austin. He and his wife Debby own a vineyard and a garden that keep them pretty busy. They have about 400 vines and enjoy pruning, spraying, harvesting, winemaking, and wine drinking with friends. Their garden is also fruitful, they are known for canning everything from pickles to olives to dog food. Hunting is also a big hobby of theirs, primarily harvesting venison, as Doug and Debby like to butcher and process their own meat.
Additionally, Doug enjoys building things and regularly works in his woodshop. He is currently helping a friend build a tiny house and this past summer he built a big stone retaining wall.
