CHAR Information Notice
In April 2009, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC): Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research released Regulatory Guide 1.211, entitled “Qualification of Safety-related Cables and Field Splices for Nuclear Power Plants.” This Reg Guide "describes a method to comply with regulations... for the qualification of safety related cables and field splices for nuclear power plants."
The Reg Guide has indicated that conformance with the requirements of IEEE Standard 383-2003 is an acceptable method to confirm qualification of 1-E cables but imposes the additional direction: "Programs for monitoring of environmental conditions... and condition monitoring should be implemented... ."
