Message from Richard Meininger, CHAR Services Chief Engineer

CHAR Services was born in 1990 with a vision to provide services to nuclear plants to circumvent control system degradation due to aging. Simple aging issues have grown to include any electrical or electronic issue that affects plant operation or control. Every year we have grown, increasing our knowledge in these areas and passing that knowledge on to the nuclear power plants. Today we have over 35 nuclear power plants using our equipment and technology themselves trough our training and support. In addition, we have assisted most of the other nuclear power plants through our consulting and on-site services.

Our first challenge was cable degradation, followed by a systematic approach to diagnosing problems with virtually all I&C systems. In this process we became Electromagnetic and Radio Frequency Interference experts and developed guidelines for the EMC qualification of new or upgraded I&C systems. All of these advancements have been followed by providing training to the nuclear power plants so that the plants could maintain control of their own destinies.

In 2008, CHAR joined forces with AMS. We have cross-trained AMS personnel to double our direct technical staff while also picking up nearly 20 highly trained support staff. AMS has assisted us in becoming a fully qualified 1E support vendor. AMS has also initiated the design of new hardware with backward data compatibility.

We have over 50 thousand data records and it would be a rare case if we couldn't compare your current problem with something that we solved in the past.
